Call me an English Lab, ONE MORE TIME, and I'll show you a continental divide.

Generally, English Labradors are show dogs, while American Labs excel in hunting and field work. I think I fall into the latter catagory.
But there is no restriction when we swap jobs. The terms “American Labs” and “English Labs” are not official and absolute. Those terms are a mere guide in determining the type of Lab available. As long as an American Labrador meets the breed standards set by the AKC or any other kennel club, he can join a dog show. Similarly, English Labs may also work in field trials and hunt without any constraint (but they have to have a work permit).
